The revolution will not be televised

i was on a long drive, soaking in music and Gill Scott-Heron's "the revolution will not be televised" came on and set my mind thinking. 10 years ago, i "knew" if i left home i will be back because i wanted to be sure i was part of a better Ghana. Nowadays, its scary because living here for a lot longer is not so far fetched. You find a job, start making decent money, buy yourself a house, next thing you know your dating a young lady, engaged, married, two kids....this will make moving a lot harder. So then i ask myself, can i have an effect on the change at home living here, can the revolution be diasporan.
With the question still not answered though, it inspired a remix of "the revolution will not be televised".....


Chale, You will not be able to sit at your local chop bar all day sipping akpeteshie,
You will not be able to get by on no job living at your uncle’s house at agbobloshie,
The statesman and the voice will not give you ammunition to complain and do nothing,
Neither will you be part of a collective groan around town because half way through a broadcast everything went dead due to load shedding because….
The revolution will not be televised; the revolution will not be televised,
The revolution will be young enterprising youth, legon and diasporan graduates working together for a common cause to better the land bestowed upon us,
We will not be singing “Yen ara y’sase ni’ and speak negatively of the man working hard all week because he thinks he is better than us,
Despite the fact that he is bettering our land, no, we will rally around the visionaries, rally around the red, gold and green for we will shine because we are black stars,
Infrastructure will continue to grow, from Accra all the way to Paga, so we have a lot more road to justify all that money we spend on luxury cars,
The revolution will not be televised; the revolution will not be broadcast Joy F.M. because the revolution will not be a protest with possible violence at Kumi preko,
It will be the realization that a job can be well done, whether or not a bribe was given on the low,
We will continue to honour our dead with funerals but realize we need to work for the money to make a burial fitting,
We will be sharing ideas without the fear repercussions,
The stifling of free speech in the form of shit-bombing will not be covered on the 7 O’clock news edition because…..
The revolution will not be televised,
The revolution will not begin with a radio broadcast due to a sixth coup d’etat,
We will not be in a state of unrest because we have come too far,
We will not vote for parties due to ethnic affiliations,
We will vote because political ideals are those we agree with and do not further corruption,
We will enjoy Kotoko vs. Hearts on Sunday and work our hearts out during the week,
The bride might be a few minutes late but our meetings will always be on time,
Our taxi drivers will forego the pavements in heavy traffic and keep in line,
There will be no pictures of accidents on the Suyani-Accra road for the hundredth time,
Because the Revolution will not be televised; the revolution will not be televised
For us who are away, the revolution will not be on Ghanaweb, we will not sit in our happy havens and criticize our country men who are making change,
We will make regular visits home with all our resources to do what we can to help the movement at every stage,
There will be ventures we own, innovations and trans-Atlantic corporations,
We will work across the world, from Germany to Japan as we build intricate organizations,
We will have profits to take the world by storm which will all filter back,
The brain drain will be reversed and we will continue to move back,
We will not be on BBC as we turn 50 because the revolution will not be televised;
The revolution will be diasporan.



And i do realize that i just made up the word "Diasporan"
