ONE HOT PIECE

so i was running from the gym and i started to get nostalgic about the days of open mics and realised that i haven't been on stage in about 5 years and wouldn't know how to handle an open mic. Besides, what i write is no longer the real performance type poetry. So i wrote a tongue in cheek performance piece about performance poetry.

ONE HOT PIECE
This...
This piece...
This piece is,
This piece has to be
One
Hot
Piece
I mean, this performance piece has to be one hot piece,
With all the requisite elements starting with sing song repetition, pauses.....
and stressessssss......
So sincerely or insincerely but definitely successfully providing emphasisssssss,
Using overly complicated verbiage, sounding like an orgy of word metamorphosis,
Because all the words sound similar as they spew forth so swiftly,
Swerving.and.swaying.through.scintillated.thoughts
Seemingly.severing.succinct.thought.sequences.and.smoothly.stimulating.minds
And.securing.synergies.that.can.only.synthesize.statements.
and.sounds.that.seem.to.hisssss
And,
and building upon that beautifully emerging roller-coaster of sounds and words,
I incorporate metaphors and similes,
Similes as hot as that sun that left my skin eternally and beautifully sun kissed,
So I can refer to African roots that make me sound deep,
even though I do not need,
roots because I am simply.....
African,
Yet I appreciate the ability to prey on stereotypes as I make up words,
so I can express my African.....ness
And explain to the audience how endowed I am because,
after all Mandingo hangs to my knees
And then I wait as I anticipate appreciation from the crowd with a few howls and my so favoured snaps,
And now my pace and tone are melancholy and grave because the point is,
I am not here to demean the art of overt oratory word play that titillates,
But to appreciate it since I realise I am unlike the masters of the art and I am not one to hate,

But FUCK, (no I did not forget the obligatory abrupt use of a swear word)
This is supposed to be,
This piece has to be a hot piece,
The only thing to make it better would be a djembe,
Rhythmically beating in the rear so my words appear to dance,
And so when I ask what this piece has to be,
I have the audience say it with me.
ONE

HOT

PIECE.
